John 9:4
January 29
John 9:4
I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
When Jesus came into this world He had definite tasks appointed Him. He knew the things that He had to do in a LIMITED AMOUNT OF TIME. Loitering would leave some things unfinished and incomplete, but at the end He could say in His Prayer to the Father in John 17.4 “I have glorified thee on earth: I have FINISHED THE WORK which thou gavest me to do.” Our Savior didn’t shy away from any of the tasks assigned to him by the Father, being obedient even to the cruel death on the cross.
In like manner, WE are here to fulfill a beautiful plan that God has for EACH OF US. Are you at the morning of life or perhaps midday? Maybe you begin to see the LENGTHENING SHADOWS that signal that the day is almost over. HOW MUCH HAVE YOU DONE for our precious Savior who loved us and gave Himself for us? How much LEFT UNDONE? How much left to do? Life passes at express train speed, and it is as if we are looking out one of the windows at the fleeting scenes and landscape. “Only one life, it will soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.” Life is precious. Don’t squander it.
Commentary by Francis L. Harris
"...what must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:30
