2 Samuel 22:2
And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
In the early years of Israel, people sometimes sought shelter from their enemies in caves of the mountainous areas; also they built fortresses on the rocky high places such as at Masada. Here in David’s praise to the Lord he compares the safety and protection of these high, rocky, unassailable places to the security that we have in God. Sometimes we do come under siege, and it seems as if the enemy would destroy us, for the Bible tells us that Satan goes about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. But we just look to Jesus. Outside, the storms of life may be raging, but inside we are sheltered and secure in the Rock of Ages. “From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.” Psalms 61:2-3.
