Ephesians 5:8

Ephesians 5:8
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
The term “darkness” in the Bible refers to men’s ignorance or willfulness (sinfulness). You may think that God overstates the case when he says that the world is in darkness. But suppose that we discovered a planet, sent a delegation, and learned that on this planet there was rampant lying, fraud, stealing from one another, murder, rape, arson and all the other features that we find right here on planet earth. Would we not say that they live in the darkness of moral decay? The reason that we are shocked at the term applied to us is because we are accustomed to it. We have lived in this environment all our life and so it seems to be normal. Our eyes have become accustomed to the darkness. But praise God, the one who is the Light of the World, has given us His light, and the light of the Word of God. 2 Cor. 4:6 “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” To those that do not yet know Him as Savior and Lord, all this is like a foreign language, totally unintelligible. But to you that know him, He is Wonderful, Counselor, Prince of Peace, the Lord Almighty and THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. If we truly love Him, let us serve Him, and walk in the light as He is in the light.
