1 Peter 2:17

1 Peter 2:17
Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
God is concerned about every detail of our life. To honor all men means to show them the proper respect and not to curse, belittle or mock them. Live with dignity. Love the brotherhood; those that have repented and accepted Christ as their Savior. They have been convicted of their sin as we have; they have seen King Jesus in his beauty and saving grace as we have, and so a mutual sympathy and love is the tie that binds us together. In regard to this love, 1 John 3:14 says: “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.” FEAR GOD. This is not a slavish fear, but a filial reverence and devotion. Honor the King; the same word we began with that says honor all men. This means to respect and not to cavil, curse or disrespect those that govern; those in authority. And thank God for our policemen. Can you imagine what a shape things would be in without them? In Romans it says that they are “servants of God,” because they enforce law and order.
