Psalms 48:14

Psalms 48:14
For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.
The psalmist contemplates the buildings of Jerusalem and its’ founding at the command of God, and with great pride and satisfaction says: “This God is our God for ever and ever.” Perhaps someone else’s God tells him to go into a trance and meditate. Perhaps someone else’s says grab a sword or a bomb and destroy and kill. But our God is full of lovingkindness and mercy. He says “Thou shalt not kill.” Our God says “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Our God says pray for your enemies and those that mistreat you. This God is our God. Our God created the heavens and the earth. Our God is so filled with love for a sinful dying world that He sent His beloved Son to suffer the punishment that we deserve; to die in our place so that we might have pardon for sin, peace with God, and eternity in heaven. This God is our God. He is loving, generous, merciful and good. This God is our God. He has reserved a day of judgment and punishment for evil doers, and a heaven for those who believe in Christ, who love Him and follow Him. This God is our God. Praise His name forever. Amen.
Commentary by Francis L. Harris
