Galatians 3:26
For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
From the opening of Paul’s letter to the Galatians to this verse 26 of chapter 3, Paul destroys the idea of adding something that we do to the finished work of Jesus when He died on the cross; something that perhaps will make our salvation more secure. Sinners that we are, it is hard to shake off the idea that perhaps we can contribute to Christ’s work on the cross; perhaps a pilgrimage, perhaps some candles, or a certain number of memorized prayers, donations to charity, or any number of good works. NO, NO, NO. Galatians 2:16 says: “By works of the law shall no flesh be justified”. God says, “All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.” In the words of one of Charles Spurgeon’s favorite hymns, ”Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to thy cross I cling.” J. Vernon McGee loved, “Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe.” It is not about what YOU do, but all about what Jesus did. “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.” Thank you Jesus. Amen.
