Psalms 25:4

Psalms 25:4
Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.
This Psalm reminds me of the old Spiritual song, “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”. The Psalmist is thirsting not just for knowledge, but for real spiritual closeness to God. Our sins have separated us from God, so this type of close, blessed fellowship with the Lord does not come naturally to us. Lying comes naturally. Hatefulness comes naturally. But to walk in fellowship with our Creator requires a radical change. We must be born again by surrender to Jesus. After this, we need His continued guidance and help. That is why Jesus told his disciples, “Take my yoke upon you and learn of me.” This requires effort and patience. If you truly belong to Jesus, you will have a prayer life and a devotional life because Jesus said, “ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”. “Just a closer walk with thee, grant it Jesus is my plea. Daily walking close to thee. Let it be, dear Lord, let it be”.
Commentary by Francis L. Harris
