Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Have you ever seen pictures of some of the strange and horrible creatures that dwell deep down in the ocean? What bizarre life forms are there! If you could communicate with them and inform them that they live in the ocean, they would likely say, “What ocean? I see no ocean.” You see, that is their environment, in which they live, move, and have their being. That is the way it is with us, living in this world. Sin is natural to us. It is everywhere; so much so that we are scarcely aware of it. It just seems natural. But to get some idea of how monstrous and ugly sin is, (like some of those hideous sea monsters), consider what it cost God to blot out the sins of the ones who will allow Him to save them. “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son”. His own dear son had to undergo the horror of a long and terrible death by crucifixion on the cross in order to make an atonement for our sins. But Jesus did it! Praise His name. All glory and honor be to the Lamb that was slain in our place! And what will be the fate of that person who has “trodden under foot (trampled) the Son of God, and counted the blood of the Covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of Grace?” Hebrews 10:29.
Commentary by Francis L. Harris
"...what must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:30
