Psalms 34:14
October 1
Psalms 34:14
Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
How strange these words must sound to the party goers, the social butterflies, and all others who refuse to submit to our God and His Son Jesus Christ. It is like telling wolves and tigers to quit killing and eating meat and blood, and to start eating grass. It is not their nature. And before you are converted and come to new life in our blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, it is not in your nature to turn from reveling, deception, vanity, profanity, lewdness, recklessness, and all the other malfunctions that make up present day society. It is like telling some of the media darlings to give up drugs and alcohol. What else is left? Life. Real life in the Son; a purposeful, useful and beneficial life with Christ in your heart, and the peace and joy of the Holy Spirit in your life. I urge you to “seek peace, and pursue it.” I urge you to attend to the most important decision you can make; to surrender to the call of Christ. At some point you must do it or be eternally lost, and the longer you postpone turning to God, the more difficult and unlikely it is that you ever will. Eternity is just around the corner. “Seek peace and pursue it.” Amen.
Commentary by Francis L. Harris
"...what must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:30
