Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Paul here tells the Romans that he is ready to preach the gospel to them also, for he is not ashamed of the gospel. And shall we be ashamed of the gospel? Ashamed of the gospel that tells us of our precious Savior, of free pardon for all who will come to Christ? Ashamed of what Paul calls “the glorious gospel,” in several other places? Never. May it never be. Jesus said, “Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” Mark 8:38.The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation. The government will not save you. Religion won’t save you. A church group won’t save you. The only thing that can save you from your sins and the sins of this adulterous generation is the GOSPEL; the glorious gospel. The only thing that can turn you from the corruption of this present world, put a song in your heart, and prepare you for heaven, and give you the strength and power to be bold and to stand up for Jesus, is the gospel of Christ crucified for our sins, buried, risen from the dead, and preparing for us a place of eternal blessedness in heaven.
Commentary by Francis L. Harris
"...what must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:30
