Matthew 16:25
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
If you save your life, you will lose it. What does this mean? Your life in this sense is what you desire, plan for, and live for in this present world, as opposed to Christ, His kingdom, and the future world in heaven with Him. If you choose self-gratification, pleasure, worldly goals and living for self, Jesus calls this "saving your life.” "Losing your life” is to come to Him by faith, kneeling at the cross, and then living for Him in accordance with His word. If we prefer to hold on to the old way of self-seeking and self promotion we lose Him, life and eternal happiness in heaven, in exchange for the empty, barren, fleeting gratifications of this present sinful world, and eternal punishment in the next world. CHOOSE LIFE!
Commentary by Francis L. Harris
"...what must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:30
