1 Peter 5:4

1 Peter 5:4
And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
The chief Shepherd is Jesus. Remember that he said “I am the good shepherd”, and Psalm 100:3 says that “we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” All that faithfully work for Christ, the apostle Peter here says will receive a crown of glory. We all know how good it is to be recognized for a job well done, but we can hardly imagine the joy and blessing of receiving a crown of glory from the Lord himself, and hearing the words, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” But let us remember also the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:30, “Cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Commentary by Francis L. Harris
