Isaiah 40:31
October 31
Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Here is a beautiful promise for those who will spend time in God’s presence, call upon Him, and trust Him. The “waiting” here is not inactivity and doing nothing yourself, but praying, committing the situation to the Lord, and believing Him. It is spending time in His presence, both in prayer, Bible reading, and obedient service to Him. The result: you will soar like a majestic eagle, above the confusion, doubt, and danger down below. This promise belongs to those who apply it and it is a general promise: without respect to any particular situation. I read of an eagle that was captured and kept tied to a rock. It is said that from time to time he would gaze off toward the distant mountains as if remembering his past freedom and longing to soar once again as he had in the past. Perhaps you are like this eagle, restrained instead of free, walking below instead of flying freely in a strong Christian life as you should do, and as you can do if only you will “wait upon the Lord,” call upon Him and walk in His presence. If you have been saved and washed in the blood of Jesus, you are an eagle born to soar.
