Matthew 4:19

And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Jesus was walking on the shore of The Sea of Galilee when he called to Peter and Andrew who were throwing their nets in the water to catch fish, and said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men”. At that time, they had no idea how to live for Jesus, how to bring people to Christ, or how to become “fishers of men”. It would be wonderful to become “fishers of men”, and to influence people to come to Christ and to change their eternal destiny. But HOW can we do that? WHERE do we begin? The answer is in today`s verse. It is not something that we can do ourselves. It can only be done AS WE FOLLOW CHRIST. That is the KEY. He says “follow me, and I WILL MAKE YOU FISHERS OF MEN. So then, the essential preparation for serving Jesus and being effective is to FOLLOW JESUS. Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Get to know Him as your loving Savior and precious Lord, to the point that the uses of this world will seem “stale, flat, and unprofitable” by comparison. Feed on His Word, and walk in sweet fellowship with Him. If you do this, get ready for some surprises. Then……. HE will make you fishers of men. You might even want to go to Bible College.
