Psalms 107:9

Psalms 107:9
For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
What a kind, loving, bountiful heavenly Father we have. Lo these many years the Lord has provided all our needs. The picture of a mother bird returning to a nest of hatchlings with their mouths wide open comes to mind. Let us raise our hands to heaven and thank the Lord for His constant, daily, loving provision of all our physical needs. What about our spiritual needs? “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes on Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus suffered the excruciating agony of death on the cross in our place so that we might have eternal life. GOD HAS PROVIDED. How about strength for the journey? He has given us the Holy Spirit to dwell within “to guide us into all truth”, John 16:13, and HE HAS PROVIDED His precious Word, the Holy Bible, which is “a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”, Psalms 119:105. HE HAS PROVIDED. What about encouragement from others? There is Christian worship. He tells Christians to worship together for mutual encouragement, and to not forsake, “assembling yourselves together”, Hebrews 10:25, and, BEST OF ALL, He permits us to bring all our problems, all our care, all our praise, and all our love to Him in prayer. “For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.”
Commentary by Francis L. Harris
