2 Kings 6:16

2 Kings 6:16
And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
Elisha’s servant could see the Syrian armies that had been sent to find and kill Elisha, but he could not see God’s protecting angels. Elisha prayed to God to open his eyes, and “behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.” We are so much like Elisha`s servant. All we can see is the present, changing, tumultuous physical world. Only when we ask Jesus to come into our heart are the scales removed from our eyes and we are allowed to see the underlying, eternal, spiritual reality. There is a God. Sin and guilt are pressing us down to an eternity of shame and contempt and all we can see is the physical world. So we pray as Elisha did, “Lord, open our eyes, that we may see”.
Commentary by Francis L. Harris
