Zechariah 7:9
December 13
Zechariah 7:9
Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:
In other passages of God’s Word He tells us to be fair, to show mercy, and to be compassionate to others, so the emphasis in today’s verse is on the word true; TRUE mercy, TRUE judgment, and TRUE compassion. If we are truly converted to Christ, this will show itself in our treatment of others, our willingness to forgive and forget, and our genuine love and mercy toward them. If these things are absent in our lives, we can ask ourselves the same question as John did: “But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and is not compassionate toward him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?” 1 John 3:17. Being a God of compassion, mercy and judgment, God has ordained that these qualities should dwell richly in US, and flourish. If we truly belong to Christ, and are in the family of God, it WILL be so. THERE WILL BE A FAMILY RESEMBLANCE.
