I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.” Jeremiah 9:24 God is everything that is just, honest, true, lovely and righteous; that is His nature, and that is the way that He wants us to be. Needless to say, we have all failed miserably; “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”, Romans 3:23. In a lifetime of sin and self-will we have incurred a tremendous load of guilt that separates and alienates us from God; guilt for which we could never atone even though we should pay throughout eternity, because unless our nature were changed, we would just keep sinning and adding to the debt. So God sent His beloved Son Jesus to die on the cross, to die in our place, and to atone for our guilt and debt of sin. Jesus carried OUR sins on the cross, and paid the price for OUR guilt. Nothing short of the terrible suffering and death of God’s Son could satisfy the demands of God’s justice. It was a PERFECT sacrifice. There is nothing to be added. Anything that we try to add, would detract from its’ perfection. What must I do? Recognize that JESUS PAID IT ALL, and that there is nothing that needs to be added. He is our substitute; the sacrificial lamb that was slaughtered in OUR place, for OUR sins. But YOU MUST HAVE A PERSONAL ENCOUNTER WITH CHRIST by coming to Him, and receiving Him into your heart by FAITH. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved”, Acts 16:31. Won’t you let him into your heart today? When you have this personal encounter with Christ, God imparts life, spiritual life to you. You are a new creature in Christ, and God sends His Holy Spirit to dwell within you. God begins a work of salvation in you, Philippians 1:6. AFTER you are saved, you will want to please Christ and follow Him in Baptism. If you are unwilling to follow Christ in this, it probably means that you are not sincere, and not really converted. Baptism is a symbol of death, burial, and resurrection. Going under the water symbolizes death and burial, while being raised from the water symbolizes resurrection from the dead, to walk in newness of life with Him. Remember, Baptism is a SYMBOL of what has already happened,(your salvation) and is NOT a meritorious deed that CONTRIBUTES or adds to Christ’s finished work. The thief on the cross was saved although he was not baptized, Luke 23:43. After you are saved, share Christ with others. “Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy”. Psalms 107:2, and “Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed”. Romans 10:11. God bless you and I look forward to seeing you in heaven as we gather around the throne to sing “all honor, glory and praise be to the Lamb that was slain”. Francis L. Harris
