Acts 17:28

Acts 17:28
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
The Psalmist asks in Psalm 139:7, “Where shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?” This is my Father’s world. “He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together”, Colossians 1:17. He is our atmosphere. We live in God as fish live in water, and we live and move in Him, by His grace and permission. The Lord has created all things, and for His pleasure, “they are and were created”, Rev. 4:11. We tend to think that the world is our oyster, our playground, in which we can frolic, act out our sinful desires and do as we please; as if it is all about us. But is this true? Are we here to dance, and sport, our brief moment just as Mayflies, and then just as quickly perish as they. The very first question of our catechism gives us the answer thusly: “What is the chief end of man?”. Answer: “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him for ever”. The first step is to submit to His Son, and to receive Him into your heart by repentance and faith.
